The University of Highlands and Islands (UHI) is made up of 13 independent colleges, research institutions and 70 local learning centres servicing remote learning locations including Isle of Skye, Orkney and Shetland.
As the sole University in the Scottish Highlands and Islands and accountable for all formal education beyond school in the region, the University required a LAN solution to standardise equipment, allow a rolling programme of LAN upgrades and renewals across the rest of the estate and provide LAN services in a new college building.
European Electronique implemented a networking solution from Hewlett Packard Enterprise deploying in excess of 400 switches to date. EE also provide extensive professional services to the University which includes the design of a new VLAN and IP schema and deployment of all edge switches across 8 sites in UHI.
The deployment was done in two phases, firstly to the Inverness College new campus. The second phase took place across five geographically widespread sites which made the implementation particularly difficult.
European Electronique have a strong relationship with the University of Highlands and Islands and continue to assist in the deployment of network infrastructure to the University’s colleges across Scotland.
